There is Nothing Wrong With Winning - Social Scientist Say "Win-at-all-Costs" Attitude Bad
Many social scientists, children sports psychologists Sea Devils concerned educators are advising not to keep score in grade school or junior high during sporting events. Their thinking is that doing so causes hurtful feelings for those that lose. Moreover, they are quick to condemn coaches that focus on winning.
One such individual and children sport's author that sides with this point of view stated: "If one were to characterize the prominent positive attitude for coaching, it might be called "win-at-all-cost."
Still, in considering this more closely, and scrutinizing these words it had occurred to me that I've played sports all my life, and I've never heard such a thing, not once has any coach told us to "win at all costs" rather they focused on fundamentals, practice, skill, strategy, hard work ethic and winning. Every game has rules; you follow the rules, work hard, train hard, strategize, and play to win.
Even Vince Lombardi did not say "win at all costs" but he did say: the object of the game is to win. And his speech about being first place is indeed the correct attitude to have. I do not believe he ever suggested to cheat, lie or steal to win. Does anyone; if so where is the quote? Any coach that says that shouldn't be coaching, especially in youth sports.
The proponents of modifying youth sports say that they believe this Dark Shadows fans attitude needs to change and yet, one has to ask them what needs to 1951 Topps baseball cards This problem does not exist in youth sports. Maybe some obnoxious parents yell stuff from the sidelines, but coaches do not advise players to cheat.
We must resist these educators and do-gooder social psychologists from this continual "de-masculating" (a word I created) of our children and young males. It is not healthy what these folks are doing to modify youth sports. Think on this.
